Waste Pipe Blockage




If you stop and think about the job that all our waste pipework does, it is quite amazing. They just sit there and take everything that we throw at them (or down them), so it is no real shock that at some stage they will fail by becoming blocked. To unblock a pipe is not too difficult to do, but if it happens to you, there is always the professional like Soho Plumbers who supply a professional service.
There are cleaning agents and solutions that can be used, but they can be very hazardous to health if not used correctly, and also they just add to the stuff that is dropped into the drains. Probably the best, simplest and most common way to resolve a blockage is to use a basic appliance called a “Plunger” these plungers can vary but the principle is always the same and that is to create pressure vacuum to clear the blockage. The Plunger is quite simple to use, for example, in a kitchen sink, simply place the plunger over the drain, with some water just covering the plungers rubber cup. Pump it back and forth several times to create the vacuum. this out several times if not successful. Mayfair Plumbers use plungers. Some blockages can often happen in the Trap that sits below the sink. To clear this, simply place a bowl underneath the trap and unscrew and remove. Clean out the trap and replace, and hand tighten. Check that the flow is ok. There are some blockages that sit in pipework that need a different type of attention. This is done by using a Drain Rod, which is a long narrow rod that can be made up to 6mtrs made from threaded sections to increase and decrease its length. The end of the rod features a corkscrew device that will entangle itself with the blockage, locking it and allowing it to be pulled clear.
